In de Waag is a freestanding 1488 gatehouse in the centre of Nieuwmarkt square. Outdoor terrace with umbrellas wraps around the SW/W face of the building. The square gives very open sky in all directions; surrounding 3-4 storey canal houses are set 40-50m back, yielding low obstruction angles (~15-20°) throughout. Deciduous trees line the square edges.
